I don't know the reason why except we had just never interacted in such a way that we could get to know each other. I so desired to introduce Open Doors, Kingdom.Golf and Mulligan Magazine to them as well as get to meet those that were interacting with the Christian Pro's on the Tour(s).
As we've stated over and over in this blog and website, "We want to engage with as many ministries using the platform of golf to evangelize and disciple as we can in order to expand the knowledge of individual golfers that Jesus Christ lives in golf".... (or similar expressions, lol).
Well, now it's the week before the event and I had, even, received an additional email verifying the fact that they were excited to see me this coming weekend and to ensure that I brought a sleeping bag and other items for my overnight stay. Now I'm really nervous because I want to go and fellowship with these guys and meet Ben Crane and the staff of the CGA, but, I feel like they're going to be surprised when this old guy walks in. My wife asked me; "Are you planning on going this weekend?" "Well, yeah" I said. "I don't have any indication that they don't want me to come, soooo."
I believe it was Wednesday before the report day of 12 PM Saturday that I got a call from Kit Stallings who apologized to me for not getting back to me, but, that she was an intern and she had not seen my emails. Again, she was excited to have me attend this weekend and what questions might I have. I explained to her the situation and she seemed to get a bit nervous. I asked her to, please, have one of the staff contact me ASAP as I was quite concerned about the deal. She said she would do that and we hung up.
I received a call from Wes Williams around noontime on Friday. He was on staff and lived in Nashville. I was so excited to speak with him. He was a bit nervous as he tried to navigate the information he had about my age and the culture of the event. He was stumbling through his explanation and trying to be kind and gentle, but, I could tell that he was concerned about how old I was. I quickly interrupted him and said; "Don't be offended, Wes, but, I have no intention on attending this weekend if it's not appropriate for me to be there." I continued; "I was, really, only trying to get in contact with someone in CGF at the beginning and this was the only true connection I could find." "Oh, my goodness," Wes said, "That's the problem with our online registration process. We don't really know who is applying, so, sometimes this happens." "Well, I continued, I had two objectives, really. The first was to communicate with you all, but the second was to meet Ben Crane in order to inform him of what we are doing with Kingdom.golf and Mulligan Magazine." Wes said, relieved; "Well, maybe this weekend retreat is not the appropriate venue for that." "I so much agree." I said. "But, I'm so glad to make your acquaintance. Let's have coffee sometime and update each other on ministry."
Wes thought that was a great idea and he told me who on CGF staff I should talk with about airing my desire to interact with a few of the pro's. I look forward to visiting with Wes next week.
Objective one; connecting with the CGF, done. Objective two; visiting with Ben Crane, to be determined.
One for two ain't bad.....
Right.
