Video - Stacy Lewis Continues Buildup Excellence for U.S. Open

Stacy Lewis continues her competitive excellence as she wins her first LPGA Tour tournament for 2014 @ the North Texas Open.

As you all know we have been highlighting Stacy and other professionals that we know are regular attendees to Bible studies on the Tours and profess a relationship with Jesus Christ.  We also are building up the buzz as we walk the path to the 2014 U.S. Open Championships that are being conducted in Pinehurst, NC this June.

So, our focus has been on Stacy as she has been the top American female golfer in the world and has maintained her position in the top 5 in the world since her last victory at the British Open last year.  This victory moves Stacy from #3 in the world to #2 and provides even more excitement for us and the world of golf as we head into the season's majors.

Stacy capped off an incredible performance yesterday as she pulled away from the field and showed her competitive spirit and excellent play when she drained the final 20 or so foot putt on the last hole.  This type of golf requires incredible focus, drive and inner confidence; all the things the great players exhibit as they perfect their craft and give testimony to the greatness that indwells mature Believers in Jesus Christ.

Let's continue to pray for all the competitors on all Tours that they would continue to grow to excellence in their profession and that they would all focus on their faith and growth in the knowledge of God.

Wonderful to serve you.... in Him

Stacey Lewis vs Lydia Ko - Great Golf - Video

4/27/2014

The Stacy Lewis vs Lydia Ko matchup is exactly the type of story Open Doors for the Open was hoping to be able to highlight as the time gets closer to the U.S. Open at Pinehurst in June.

The drama that has been played out the last few weeks on the LPGA Tour with great story lines and dramatic come-from-behind finishes as well as the recent firestorm created by the Sports Illustrated golf article about women in golf featuring a model engaged to a PGA Tour player versus successful competitive professional women golfers who should be the focus of media attention.  Now, it's being played out on the golf course as it well should be.

PictureStacy Lewis #1 with ODFTOpen
The perspective of Open Doors is focused upon Stacy Lewis who we have been following, praying to get to know and feature during our Open Doors for the Open and desiring a faith-based story line heading into the Open.

As we've featured before, Stacey Lewis is not just a wonderful player and ranked 3rd best in the world right now, current British Open Champion and short-lived #1 player at the end of last season, no, Stacey Lewis is a model woman and Believer in Jesus Christ exemplifying true faith in action on the LPGA Tour and world stage as a golf celebrity.

We are happy to highlight the great golf and the drama that is being played out on the Tour leading up to this historic event coming up in June in Pinehurst, but, we desire the opportunity to highlight the lives of the women and men of faith in Christ as they trek toward the event.  We hope we will continue to see the Christian character of these players on the world stage similar to what we saw in an obviously mature performance and demeanor exhibited by, now, two-time Masters Champion, Bubba Watson earlier this month.

The final round of the Swinging Skirts Classic in Lake Merced will make the LPGA Tour happy to see such drama playing out before a world-wide TV audience, but we will be happy to see the continued professional excellence of these ladies and the opportunity for Christ to be honored by the next champion regardless of who wins.

For more on Stacey Lewis' life please click here.  To find out more about the Open Doors for the Open opportunity and join us at Pinehurst, please click here....

Thanks so much...

Natalie Gulbis Previews Back-to-Back 2014 U.S. Opens

In light of trying to address the upcoming back-to-back U.S. Opens at Pinehurst, NC this coming June, we will be posting various blogs and videos in order to bring attention to the event, the location and the view of the players as they prepare to compete at this historic venue.

Today we're showing a video of Natalie Gulbis.  She is asked about her opinions on the historic venue, the golf course and the importance to the world of golf.

Before you go there, how would you like to engage with Open Doors for the Open? (click)

I was wondering about Natalie's faith.  I had read an interview some months ago and found it here in the LinksPlayers website.

Here is the interview posted on the www.linksplayers.com website;

"You are involved in the Fellowship on Tour. How does this contribute to the development of friendships and camaraderie for you?

Three or four years ago, Wendy Ward invited me to be part of a small group. We were playing during one of the tournament rounds and she was telling me about girls being in a small group, and that they have a book and a Bible study that they do together, and they usually meet once a week and go to dinner.

She invited me to be part of it and I went for the first time in Tennessee. I remember how nervous I was to go and share my faith with others.

But what’s neat about the Fellowship is that it’s not about one particular denomination. It’s open to everybody in the LPGA and your friends and family when you come out on Tour. It’s very special because we’re an international-based tour that has players from all over the world, so we have players in the Fellowship who are from Korea and come from a different background or denomination, and we have players who come from Mexico who are of a different denomination, and we’re able to interact with one another in a common theme. I’ve really enjoyed the experience and getting to know the players.

How many players are involved in a small group?

It usually starts off with four or five, and sometimes it gets up to eight or ten, depending on who is playing that week, or if there is a particular book. There are five or six different books that you can go through. Sometimes we meet for coffee, sometimes we meet in the clubhouse for lunch. It’s about staying connected with each other.

Throughout my time with the small group I've been involved in, we've seen girls that have gotten pregnant and girls that have gone through divorce, girls that have gone through tough times and great times. We’ve become like a small family on Tour. It’s great because it’s hard to stay connected. I’m fortunate with my church here in Las Vegas that they have podcasts, so I can watch the podcasts online when I’m out on the road. But for a lot of players on Tour, the Fellowship is really their church out there.

When you first started going to the small group meetings, was that the first real outworking of your faith, or had you had some experience before this?

I was very private with my faith. I traveled with my Bible, and I read my Bible everyday by myself and learned. I’m still very private about my faith. I watch the podcasts from my church online.

What church is that in Las Vegas?

It’s called Central Christian. It’s a non-denominational church. When I first went to this church—you never know what to expect when you go to a church for the first time—we were walking in, and there was a coffee shop on the left and people were going to church in jeans. It was very casual and it had great music and a pastor that was the right fit for me. I’d been to church with friends and family in different churches and denominations all over the world, so it’s fun to have one that I can go to in Las Vegas and feel comfortable at.

How much of the year are you in Las Vegas?

Not enough! Let’s just say I spend more time on the road than I do at home.

Are there any particular passages of the Bible that strengthen you?

Yes, there are. But this year I had a fan who had seen me at church and who came up and asked me to write my favorite verse beneath my signature. I didn't have one. So that’s my resolution for 2010 is to find one that I would be able to share with my fans.

Is there anything that you find in the discipline and practice of your faith that is similar to the discipline that is required of you athletically?

Yes. What is important to me both as an athlete and in my faith is consistency and learning. Consistency in creating some really positive habits in your life, whether it’s in your faith or in your sport. And learning—I love to learn about different perspectives on people’s faiths. I've seen different religions all over the world, and it’s fun to see how different people practice their faith, and it helps me to grow spiritually as well. I think there are parallels.

Do you find that there is conflict between setting goals for your career and letting God do His work in your life?

Well, setting goals for my career, I set with my team—with my coaches and with my trainers. But my personal goals, I set in my quiet time. I find that if I’m struggling to make a decision, usually quiet time helps me to get through that."

From Bill .... And to be honest, I'm not able to catch a clear picture of her standing with Christ, but, that's ok.  I just thought it a good idea to post her interview and begin to draw attention to the Open Doors for the Open website through videos, etc.  So you make your own determination of the value of her interview.

I pray we can all recognize His will for this time in history.

How would you like to engage with Open Doors for the Open?

Thanks

Post Masters - Pre U.S. Open

PictureCrenshaw bids adieu to the Masters
The 2014 Masters is over and the U.S. Open at Pinehurst #2 is the next major.

I can't get over how I'm reminded that the golf season really does begin at the Masters.  This year it did not disappoint.
Once again, if you've ever been present on the grounds of Augusta National during the tournament, you can't imagine the beauty and atmosphere of the course, the "patrons", the fashion, the quality of the golf and the sheer grandeur of the entire environment.  If you didn't make it this year, be advised, next year www.opendoorsfortheopen.com (then to be labled OpenDoorsfortheMasters) may be there with a venue similar to what we're doing in Pinehurst.  Keep coming back to learn more about this eventuality.  Pray!!!

So, the attention turns back to the PGA Tour and competitive golfers from across America get ready for their own tournament season. The Tour will jaunt around it's regular spots; down to The RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, The Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Wells Fargo in Charlotte, NC, The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, etc. (more of the schedule here), but, our eyes, of course are on the U.S. Open for Men at Pinehurst #2, June 9 - 15 and the U.S. Open for Women on the same wonderful Pinehurst venue, June 19 - 22.  I am so excited coming off of the Masters and to enter into the golf season.  We pray you are as well and hope we can keep our eyes more focused on the Creator of All and keep His will and purposes on the 'first tee' of our lives. (corny, I know, lol, but true)

So keep coming back to our site for updates, subscribe to our social media posts and hand off our information to your friends and loved ones.

I, next, will be visiting the Evening of Champions at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, GA this Thursday night to meet up with Josh Nelson and the folks who frequent the Links Players Ministry and hobble around (just had knee surgery) the Gwinnett Championship at TPC Sugarloaf on Friday, April 18th to watch my favorite Champions Tour Players and fellowship a bit with Ron Potter and Sam Woolwine of the Challenge Golf Association.
