The Challenge Golf Association Announces June Events

6/1/2014

We've received the Challenge Golf Association's (CGA) schedule for the rest of June 2014.

Field's Ferry Outing - Scheduled June 10

A golfer who recently played Fields Ferry in Calhoun, Ga., was quoted as saying "I feel like I'm at the center of the golf universe, this is so pretty."

Members of the Challenge Golf Association will discover how pretty on June 10 when Fields Ferry hosts the organization in what will be the CGA's best bargain of the season.

Cost of golf and lunch will be only $27. If you are planning to play, you need to contact us no later than June 7. You can email either me, Ron or Scott. We plan to have lunch at 12, followed by golf at 1.

Fields Ferry is a relatively new course, having opened in 1992. It only recently converted its greens to Championship Dwarf Bermuda. Award-winning architect Arthur Davis was the course designer.

This will actually be the first of three possible June events in which the Chattanooga chapter can participate.

The newly established Tri-Cities chapter is hosting an event at the critically acclaimed

Blackthorn Club in Johnson City.- June 19th

Blackthorn is an Arthur Hills masterpiece that is considered one of the best courses, if  not the best, in the northeastern part of the state. Hills is a two-time Golf Digest Golf Course Architect of the Year.

Lunch and golf will be $60. Blackthorn's regular unaccompanied fee is $85. Those planning on playing the upscale Johnson City course should contact Ron Potter of intent before June 17.

The Challenge Golf Association will be making its third trip to the

Champions Club at Hampton Creek - June 30.

Lunch and golf for that outing will be just $30. The Champions Club, like Blackthorn, is a private club.

Blessings,
Sam

Video - Open Doors at the Gwinnett Champions Tour Event and Links Players Outreach

5/13/2014

We at Open Doors for the Open are trying as much as we can to capture the Open Doors opportunities to highlight what our Lord is doing in golf as we lead up to the U.S. Open this June.

At the Champion's Tour Greater Gwinnett Championship conducted on the Champions Tour last month, it was a simple 4 hours drive to Atlanta for us from Murfreesboro, TN.  We teamed up with Ron Potter, the President of the Challenge Golf Association, Sam Woolwine, a member of the CGA staff, Don Midgette the President of the Board of Directors and Greg Powers, a member of the Board and lifetime member of the PGA Tour.  Our objective was to visit together during this trip and orient each other on each of our activities as we are trying to reach out to the world of golf and introduce Jesus Christ as well as disciple Believers.

We discovered several similarities during our dinner.  Then we attended the Night of Champions, Links Players Outreach to the local community and thoroughly enjoyed our time together with Larry Nelso, Tom Lehman, Tom Randall (Chaplain on the Champions Tour), Dave Marr of the Golf Channel and the company of several other Champions' Tour players in attendance.  The message during the Night of Champions was that God is active in the platform of golf, yet, only when men and women are obediently seeking His face and doing what He is encouraging and empowering them to do.  This movement in golf has been evident over the past 35 years.

The next day was round 1 of the Gwinnett Championship.  It was cold and wet, but, as you can see by the video, it was wonderful to see these gifted Players get ready, then head to the course and play with excellence this wonderful game we all love.  Jimenez broke through as expected and won the event with some stellar golf and some challenge from one of our favorite Brothers, Bernhard Langer.  It was a wonderful day and great opportunity.

Open Doors Marketing and Promotion

4/24/2014

U.S. Open Doors Promotion
Marketing/Promotions.

The Lord has been amazing as this effort for the Open Doors continues to come together!!  The basics of the opportunity are in place and an environment will be established in and around the Village Chapel of Pinehurst from June 9-22, 2014.  We are overjoyed!

Now is the time to begin communicating with Christendom relative to the opportunity for those who have a passion for golf and a love for Christ to hear the message and communicate it to their network of friends.

The primary means for promoting this opportunity will be through the www.opendoorsfortheopen.com website and an "assisted" social media campaign that will grow the brand and excitement through the various media available online.  This process takes the form of building a solid website that serves as a promotional tool, an informational source that will engage visitors to guide them into their place of interest and a communications tool for all to learn, grow and go!

Picture
The social media campaign must be engaged in by all of us who have a desire and passion to get the word out about this unique opportunity.  The website is established and we have begun posting blogs and evangelistic information so that those who visit will have ample guidance and information about the opportunity, etc.  What is essential is that all of us "post" text, audio and/or video blogs for the purpose of growing "search engine" trust which will increase the number of visitors funneled to the site.  We desire that this activity get to 3-5 blogs per day by April 15th and maintain that level of activity through the end of the event, June 30, 2014.  We invite YOU to submit written or video information relative to YOUR  passion for this opportunity.  Just let us know you would like to post something and we'll let you.  Or, simply go to a blog post and post your own comment on the blog and it will be promoted.

The social media campaign consists of, still, the people involved in the planning and promotion "posting" the information on their own Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn as well as any other social media that are frequented by the members of our team.  This is confusing to some people, but, it is relatively easy if you frequent ANY Social Media activity.  For instance, let's say you are an infrequent Facebook participant, the simple thing for you to do is go up to the blog you are reading, click on the Title and it isolates that blog.  Scroll down to the bottom of the blog and hit "Like".  This will automatically add the hyper-linked small reference to the Blog on your Facebook timeline.  This will automatically be shown to your friends and they will make their own decision about reading, clicking, liking and or commenting.  Once they do that, it automatically goes out to their network of Facebook friends.  See how easy that is?

Another example is LinkedIn.  This social media site is becoming quite valuable for serious connections to your network.  If you are a participant on LinkedIn, you can post to your LinkedIn timeline by clicking on the blog's URL or web address and copying the address.  Go to you LinkedIn page and post to your LinkedIn page with a comment about what you read and paste the address/URL to that comment.  This will post on your LinkedIn timeline and inform those who follow you that you have posted that information.

An email newsletter (eNewsletter) will be established by Open Doors for the Open and emailed weekly to an 'ever-growing' list of opt-in readers of the information distributed regarding the Open Doors.  The email list for the eNewsletter will begin with the over 1,300+ names included in the Open Doors for the Open database and will grow as visitors visit the site and sign up for receipt of the eNewsletter.

Picture
Additional promotion of the www.odftopen.com website will be accomplished by asking each ministry to include a 'panel' about the ODftOpen in a primary location on their website (preferably on the first landing page and above the fold), including links to the ODftOpen site.  Additionally, we ask that the ministry include the 'panel' and/or links and information about ODftOpen into all communications distributed from their ministry from April - July 1, 2014.  In other words, we are asking all ministries and individuals involved to promote the Outreach in any way possible throughout their network and social media.  We don't ask for a special campaign per se, just consistent inclusion of the Outreach information in all correspondence and activities from April - July.

Again, the idea is to draw visitors to the website, www.odftopen.com, to inform them, inspire their involvement in the Outreach and/or continued interest in golf ministry and gain their email address to include them in each new eNewsletter update.

Through the process above, we expect a significant growth in followers of our information, engagement as the user feels they should engage and a continued information source to help grow them and connect them to a golf or other ministry in their area.

Thanks so much.  Praise Him!!!

LinksPlayers Evening of Champions - Gwinnett Championship - Video

4/21/2014

Last Thursday, I attended an Evening of Champions conducted by Josh Nelson, Southeast Regional Director for Links Players international....

It was conducted the evening before the first round of the 2014 RBC Gwinnett Championship on the Champions Tour,  Josh and I have become friends over the past few months as we are working together to conduct the Open Doors for the Open in Pinehurst North Carolina in June during the US Open; both Men's and Women's for 2014.  Josh has been instrumental in assisting in some introductions as well as coordination and participation in getting the outreach ministry put together.

PictureDave Marr, Golf Channel
This Evening of Champions was highlighted by the moderation of Dave Marr, Golf Channel personality, and the son of former PGA Champion and 1965 Player of the Year, Dave Marr (see video).  Additionally Larry Nelson, Tom Lehman and a gentleman by the name of Tom Randall conducted a discussion on stage about their lives in golf as well as their life in Christ.

It was a marvelous evening as Dave spoke about the history of the Tour when these gentlemen were playing at their peak, about the stories of faith and successes as well as some not so many successes..... However, throughout the evening there was an atmosphere of faith and hope while expressing deep comradery and fellowship in faith.

Much of the talk was about golf history and their part in it.  Specifically, their experiences throughout the years in the Ryder Cup in which both Larry and Tom had incredible records of wins and critical performances in those crucial world golf events.  Of course they have had other successes, as well, such as the US Open, which Larry Nelson won in 1983 and twice won the PGA Championship in 1981 and 1987.  Tom Lehman, who won the British Open Championship, has a stellar record in the Ryder Cup and served as Captain, but, also was Player of the Year on three Tours; Hogan, PGA and Champions Tour,.  Well, Tom Randall spoke of a fourth, the LPGA Tour, but I have not been able to find that reference.  So, it was just a wonderful evening as they talked about their friendship and fellowship.

The second half of the evening highlighted the story of the life of Tom Randall, the chaplain on the Champions Tour.  Tom has been the chaplain on the tour for some 15 plus years and the stories that were told by Tom, his pastor, Larry Nelson and Tom Lehman about God's work in bringing Tom to the Champions Tour.  Tom suffered many difficulties over his life and most recently was released from a Philipino prison after a harrowing 22 days where God was magnified through faithfulness and the prayers of His people.  It is an amazing story, a story of faith, and a story of Hope.  A story similar to that of Paul the Apostle who, of course, was in jail and ministering from prison to his faithful followers.

Tom had a very similar story and it was heartwarming and faith-building to hear as these men spoke about God's providence, and their lives on golf's biggest stage; the PGA Tour, The Ryder Cup and the Champions Tour.

It was a pleasure to participate in this evening and, I pray, that you will have the opportunity to experience the stories of these men, and God's work in the world of golf.

Thank you for listening or reading this story.
