1. The vision
The Body of Christ has an unprecedented opportunity to reach the golf world for Christ at the U.S. Open being conducted at the Pinehurst Resort, and make known the love, truth, and presence of God to the spectators in and around the Village Chapel as well as maintain connection with those who express an interest to engage with a golf ministry and/or enter into a discipleship relationship.
2. What has been accomplished?
a. Village Chapel - the facility itself has been dedicated by the congregants as an "Open Door" to the visiting spectators, media, support staff and village people during the two U.S. Open weeks.
b. A celebration, an experience, overview - as Josh Nelson called it, a kind of "Tailgate Party" celebration U.S. Open style that would have an inviting atmosphere with broadcast HD television on the lawn, SNAG being played by kids and adults, lounging of spectators and offerings of hospitality, promotions of golf ministry, speakers, programs and fellowships conducted inside throughout the entire time of the Opens.
c. Speakers - We have secured Webb Simpson or another PGA Tour representative, we have the Governor of North Carolina committed and a series of speakers that are being coordinated by VKM/CBMC Ministries.
d. Fellowships - We will be conducting morning Links-style fellowship meetings each of the weekdays, Bible studies, evangelism training and worship opportunities.
e. Hosting of ministries - see here, http://www.opendoorsfortheopen.com/connect-w-golf-oriented-ministries.html others to be added, like, Young Life, FCA Golf, Challenge Golf Association, etc.
f. Coalescing of ministries - the objective is to invite any golf or sports oriented ministry that has a passion for evangelism and/or discipleship. Additionally, there will be various authors, tools and recommendations for conducting ministry around the platform of golf.
g. Evangelical Outreach - see our plan for a "Brigade of Evangelists" http://www.opendoorsfortheopen.com/brigade-of-evangelists.html
h. Discipleship - we have a heart for discipling golfers. Our connection with the CBMC and Links Players International alone provides for opportunities for golfers to connect with small groups back in their home areas after they become aware of the ministries, the platform of golf for discipleship and are invited after being connected locally.
i. Repeat - this is just the beginning of this type of opportunity. We are committed for the long-haul to provide similar opportunities throughout the United States and in foreign countries, like, the 2015/16 Masters, US Open, PGA, the Olympics in Brazil for
Marketing/Promotions.
The primary means for promoting this opportunity will be through the www.odftopen.com website and an "assisted" social media campaign that will grow the brand and excitement through the various media available online. This process takes the form of building a solid website that serves as a promotional tool, an informational source that will engage visitors to guide them into their place of interest and a communications tool for all to learn, grow and go!
The social media campaign must be engaged in by all of us who have a desire and passion to get the word out about this unique opportunity. Open Doors for the Open has the website established and has begun posting blogs and evangelistic information so that those who visit will have ample guidance and information about the opportunity, etc. What is essential is that all of us "post" text, audio and/or video blogs for the purpose of growing "search engine" trust which will increase the number of visitors funneled to the site. This activity must get to 3-5 blogs per day by April 15th and maintain that level of activity through the end of the event.
The Social Media campaign consists of, still, the people involved in the planning and promotion "posting" the information on their own Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn as well as any other social media that are frequented by the members of our team.
An email newsletter (eNewsletter) will be established by Open Doors for the Open and emailed weekly to an 'ever-growing' list of opt-in readers of the information distributed regarding the Open Doors. The email list for the eNewsletter will begin with the over 4,000 names included in the Open Doors for the Open database and will grow as visitors visit the site and sign up for receipt of the eNewsletter.
Additional promotion of the www.odftopen.com website will be accomplished by asking each ministry to include a 'panel' about the ODftOpen in a primary location on their website (preferably on the first landing page and above the fold), including links to the ODftOpen site. Additionally, we ask that the ministry include the 'panel' and/or links and information about ODftOpen into all communications distributed from their ministry from April - July 1, 2014. In other words, we are asking all ministries and individuals involved to promote the Outreach in any way possible throughout their network and social media. We don't ask for a special campaign per se, just consistent inclusion of the Outreach information in all correspondence and activities from April - July.
Again, the idea is to draw visitors to the website, www.odftopen.com, to inform them, inspire their involvement in the Outreach and/or continued interest in golf ministry and gain their email address to include them in each new eNewsletter update.
Through the process above, we expect a significant growth in followers of our information, engagement as the user feels they should engage and a continued information source to help grow them and connect them to a golf or other ministry in their area.
