This Open Doors Outreach took the shape of; promotional presentation of the Outreach over the networks of participating ministries; written, online, advertising, and communication with their members/participants. We hoped they would establish a presence at the Village Chapel and Pinehurst Resort to interact with those attending the Open(s) and, finally, to maintain contact with those they have connected with during the Outreach and maintain contact and communication with Open Doors to foster the next events moving forward. Those events could be; the Masters 2015, the British Open 2015, the PGA 2015, the Masters 2016, other PGA/LPGA events throughout 2016 and beyond; A lasting legacy and Gospel/disciple-oriented platform to honor Christ.
Additionally, we saw our part as a promoter of the event through the www.opendoorsfortheopen.com blog for the months leading up to the event. We pray we'll continue to see a following of like-minded Believers and Seekers who have been drawn to the blog and are following the activities from the Open Doors and those events we conduct in the future. We were hoping to Live-Stream many events and interviews as well as provide profiles of the various ministries involved in the event. This didn't happen as much as we would like, but in the future we expect this to be a significant part of the event. We will archive these video’s/audio’s and stories (blogs) to utilize in future efforts to grow the ministry and outreach.
A critical part of this vision is to; “train and equip a brigade of golfers who have a passion for the game and a love for Jesus Christ "to be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have… with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15. In this regard opendoorsfortheopen.com will be conducting online and ‘at the event’ training to those desiring to easily explain why they are participating in the Chapel’s Open Doors for the Open.
What does this look like? opendoorsfortheopen.com is a platform that easily attracts golfers. We will provide intriguing and compelling content which engages them and guides them into an online community where they can choose the way in which they want to participate. Of course, this community will contain content from participating ministries, authors, video producers or video bloggers that will keep them intrigued and engaged in the community. Community participants were encouraged to physically visit the 2014 US Open at Pinehurst and/or participate in the online live and video streaming of the Pinehurst events in June 2014. In the future, we will have similar platforms at our next events. Those that have a desire to use the tools and content identified in the community relative to, Links Fellowships, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Golf (FCA Golf), Christian Business Men’s Connection (CBMC) or College Golf Fellowships (CGF), purchase a book or video, will be encouraged to do so. However, those that will attended the 2014 Open were guided through an online training curriculum and encouraged to join our Brigade at Pinehurst referring golfers to the Village Chapel activities, introduce them to the online community and encouraged them to participate in the community and/or fellowships in their local communities. As a minimum, those who had heard the message received an honorary wrist band encouraging them to visit and join the community websites.
We will organize more of these types of outreach events at future golf events.
